What students will do
This course builds the sustained analytical skills high school students need for AP-level literature and college coursework. Students spend the semester in deep study of a single novella, following characters through a complete psychological arc.
Literary devices, narrative structure, and character development are explored through frameworks such as Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Jungian archetypes. Students learn to explain why characters change, not merely what happens to them.
The course builds toward one polished essay through drafting, peer review, instructor feedback, revision, and evidence-based seminar discussion.
