Course description

What students will do

This course develops persuasive writing and analytical reading for AP Language, college applications, and college-level composition. Students identify rhetorical strategy and learn to select structure, tone, evidence, and appeals for a particular audience.

Modeled after an ENG 101 course, students examine essays, speeches, and opinion writing while producing expository, cause-and-effect, argumentative, and narrative essays.

Multiple rounds of writing and revision help students develop voice, argumentative structure, evidence use, and counterargument.

Who this is for

High school students who want to become sharper, more persuasive writers and more critical readers of argument.
