I have been an educator for more than two decades, as the lead instructor in middle school through college classrooms, teaching English, psychology, and history. I have worked as a professional tutor and supervised three college learning centers where I trained and mentored more than a hundred professional and peer tutors through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), through which I obtained their highest certification.
Teaching Approach
A student who reads a chapter four times and retains nothing is often reading while managing anxiety. A student who won’t turn in work sometimes cares more, not less, than the one who does. A student who struggles to get a word on the page can often verbalize eloquently.
The skill that unlocks the work is almost never the skill on the syllabus, and it’s my passion to understand the unique profile of every student and foster the skills they need to be successful. I prioritize multimodal learning, from manipulating post-it notes to peer review while fostering advocacy skills so students can deeply think about and verbalize their learning needs.
Background / Education
I am a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University at Albany’s highly regarded English department, where I was selected for the competitive English Honors Program and received foundational training in its renowned Writing Center. I later earned a master’s degree in Humanistic Psychology from the institute founded by Abraham Maslow and began doctoral training in clinical psychology at the Florida Institute of Technology, where I received a competitive University Graduate Scholarship and served as a research assistant.

Across these experiences, I developed a client-centered approach that continues to shape my work as an educator focused on the needs, strengths, and potential of each individual learner.
I am a former college adjunct at both SUNY and RIT. Most recently, I was an instructor at a private Bay Area academy for exceptional learners and at BASIS Independent, ranked 12th in the United States for best STEM high schools. I also work as a small group tutor for Chinese students in grades 5–11 who are seeking advanced support or are still mastering the English language.
While I offer an expansive range as an educator, my area of specialty is working with exceptional learners whose ways of knowing are often overlooked in classrooms—students with and without diagnoses whose ways of approaching and sharing information require an individualized approach. Hence our commitment to small class sizes!
